Kopja Fak

Our lives are full of limitations: mental, physical, cultural, natural and man made. The Kopja Fak (Totem Poles) exhibition reflects my inner strugle with Life and Death and my own limitations.

For this exhibition my main focus was the ultimate limitation: Death! The connection between our mortal body and the immortality of the spirit.

For two years I researched old cemeteries, collecting visual impressions in Europe, Japan and Egypt. The gravestones and tombs gave me the inspiration for my work. Initially I visited and documented monuments of mass graves in Hungary, marking the last resting place of those killed in wars or revolutions, mainly unknown soldiers. Their graves are marked with “Kopja Fak” (Totem Poles) made by the relatives and survivors.
